DECR Communication Service, 16/09/2024
On 16th September 2024, on the premises of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, DECR chairman, met with Bishop Alexei of Sitka and Alaska.
Bishop Alexei was accompanied by Archpriest Daniel Andrejuk, rector of the Church of the Holy Great Martyr Catherine In-the-Fields, representative of the Orthodox Church in America to the Moscow Patriarchal Throne, and Archpriest Daniel Charles, secretary of the Alaska Diocese of the Orthodox Church in America.
The DECR chairman warmly welcomed the guest and conveyed his greetings to the Primate of the Orthodox Church in America, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon.
Bishop Alexei of Sitka and Alaska told Metropolitan Anthony about the church life in Alaska. Orthodox faith had been brought there by Russian missionaries. One of the most remarkable among them was St. Innocent, Metropolitan of Moscow. Bishop Alexei also shared his impressions of his pilgrimage trip to the Russian Orthodox Church.
Among the topics raised during the meeting was a celebration, due to take place in 2025, to mark the centenary of the demise of St. Tikhon the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’, who had made an enormous contribution to the spread of Orthodoxy in North America.
The participants in the meeting also discussed the current situation in the Orthodox world and persecutions against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in particular.
As memorable gifts, Metropolitan Anthony presented a panagia to Bishop Alexei and a pectoral cross to Father Daniel Charles.
Taking part in the meeting was also Archpriest Igor Yakimchuk, DECR deputy chairman.
