Synod of the Macedonian Orthodox Church–Archdiocese of Ohrid: The law adopted in Ukraine deprives millions of believers of the right to confess their faith
DECR Communication Service, 13.09.2024.
The Holy Synod of Bishops of the Macedonian Orthodox Church–Archdiocese of Ohrid, at its meeting on September 12, discussed various issues and events related to church life, Liturgija.mk portal reports.
The Synod paid special attention to the situation of the sister Ukrainian Orthodox Church due to the law adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to ban it, thereby depriving ‘millions of believers who worship in churches of this Church of their fundamental right to religious affiliation, confession of their faith and celebration of divine services.’
‘The Holy Synod of the Macedonian Orthodox Church–Archdiocese of Ohrid testifies to the Gospel truth and expresses prayerful support to His Beatitude Onufry, Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine, the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, to brothers archpastors and the faithful, praying to the All-Merciful Lord to give them strength to hold out against this ordeal and overcome it,’ the statement reads.
It also notes that ‘the Holy Synod prays for the unity of all Local Orthodox Churches that together form the Body of Christ.’
