Court deprives community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church the right to serve in the Church of the Protection in Parkhomivka.
DECR Communication service, 22.07.2024.
On 19th July 2024 the court decreed that the national architectural monument of the Church of the Holy Protection in the village of Parkhomivka in the Kharkiv region should be returned back to the state as state property, reports the Union of Orthodox Journalists with a link to the Ukrainian judiciary.
The court took the decision as the Church of the Holy Protection had been listed as a monument of national cultural importance and as such should belong to no other organization than the state. For this reason the right to use the building for religious worship was cancelled and the decision by the executive committee of the rural council of Parkhomivka of 2009 on the right to build a church was deemed to be illegal.
Commenting on the decision to deprive the community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Parkhomivka the right to a church building, officials of the Ukrainian ministry for culture stated that together with the Kharkiv regional administration they had “defended the right of the state to dispose with a monument of national cultural importance as it belonged to all Ukrainians”.
