Volyn authorities intend to ban the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the territory of the region
DECR Communication Service, 11.05.2022.
In the Volyn region of Ukraine there was registered a draft resolution of the city council on banning the activities of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the annulment of the statutes and state registration of its religious communities in the region. The authors of this project think that the purpose of these measures is “the establishment of the one Orthodox independent Ukrainian Church.”
The Union of Orthodox Journalists reports that the regional deputies suggested addressing Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada with a demand to pass a law according to which the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church would be banned throughout the country.
At the same time, they called upon the ruling bishops of the Vladimir-Volynsky and Volyn dioceses to withdraw from the canonical Church immediately and come to the negotiating table with the OCU representatives.
