On the night of January 7, 2022, the feast of the Nativity of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, celebrated the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom at the church of “The Joy to All the Afflicted” icon of the Mother of God on Bolshaya Ordynka street in Moscow.
Grand Compline and Matins were celebrated in the evening of January 6.
The archpastor was joined by the clergy of the church.
Singing at the divine service was the Moscow Synodal choir conducted by the honoured artist of Russia Alexey A. Puzakov.
Petitions for the deliverance of coronavirus infection were said during the Litany of Fervent Supplication, after which Metropolitan Hilarion lifted up the prayer recited at the time of the spread of baneful pestilence.
Christmas Message by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to the archpastors, pastors, deacons, monastics and all the faithful children of the Russian Orthodox Church was read out by hegumen Filaret (Tambovsky), a cleric of the church.
The troparion and kontakion to the feast were sung before the icon of the Nativity of Christ in the centre of the church.
After the Divine service, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk congratulated the worshippers on the feast of the Nativity of Christ, saying, among other things:
“The Nativity of Christ is a feast which we celebrate with a special feeling that God is with us in our life.
“I would like to wish all of you to be steadfast in faith that would never become weaker. I wish you not to be disconcerted or afraid, but always feel the presence of God in your life and put faith in Him rather than relying on yourself, and the Lord will help you and all of us.
“I cordially greet you with the feast of the Nativity of Christ!
Take care of yourself and your near and dear. May the Lord keep you all!”
