Parishioners of the church of the Ascension on Samui give foodstuff aid to islanders

On July 4, 2021, the community of the church of the Ascension of the Lord on Samui Island, Thailand, together with rector the Rev. Andrey Ivashchenko organized a distribution of foodstuffs for the low-income islanders, reports the Patriarchal Exarchate of South-East Asia from its page in VKontakte social network.

As was reported earlier, due to the difficult epidemiological situation in Thailand, the parishes of the Diocese of Thailand, with a blessing of Patriarchal Exarch in South-East Asia Metropolitan Sergiy of Singapore and South-East Asia, continue increasing the amount of aid to the local population - those who have been affected by the disease and those who found themselves caught in a difficult economic situation due to the pandemic.

In particular, on June 8, representatives of the Diocese of Thailand, acting on behalf of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Kingdom of Thailand, supplied 260 lunch boxes for the Thais treated from COVID-19 in one of the observatories in Bangkok.

Along with Thais, aid it given to labour migrants from Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar, the most vulnerable group in Thailand. Thus, on June 16, the faithful distributed some 200 lunch boxes to the needy locals near the St. Nicholas Cathedral in Bangkok, and on June 17 over 150 packages with foodstuffs were distributed to the labour migrants staying in an observatory.

Late in May, a distribution of humanitarian aid to the needy was organized on Phuket Island by the Parish of the Holy Trinity. The people who found themselves in a difficult life situation, received packages with foodstuffs and basic essentials. The same charitable action was carried out by Hieromonk Alexander (Vashchenko) in the church of the Holy Royal Passion-Bearers at the town of Hua Hin.
